Wellbeing

Our school recognises that each student in our school is unique and has different gifts and talents as well as different needs. We recognise that a pupil’s development is closely linked to a good self-image and so we strive to present the school’s total curriculum in such a manner as to allow all to realise their full potential. Our school Mission Statement, which communicates the unique ethos of our school, plays a pivotal role in guiding the nature and focus of our wellbeing programme. Coláiste Naomh Cormac is committed to excellence in all that it does. The promotion of wellbeing in our school communist is central to us achieving excellence. We hope to insil our students with: life-skills and competences, physical wellbeing, being able to manage the normal stresses of life and the value of belonging to our school and wider community. This will enable our students to develop their personal wellbeing, be active citizens and lifelong learners that can achieve excellence now and in the future.

Coláiste Naomh Cormac takes a coordinated whole-school approach to the implementation of wellbeing in our school community. This involves building and integrating School Self-Evaluation processes, developing the whole-school guidance plan, adopting the National Educational Psychological Service (NEPS) continuum of support, and building effective inter-agency relationships. Here at Coláiste Naomh Cormac  we have chosen strongly prioritise and highlight wellbeing within our school community. This is reflected strongly in our curricular provision: Social Personal and Health Education (SPHE) and Civic, Social and Political Education (CSPE) curricula as well as, Physical Education (PE) and Personal Development.

“Wellbeing is present when a person realises their potential, is resilient in dealing with the normal stresses of their life, takes care of their physical wellbeing and has a sense of purpose, connection and belonging to a wider community. It is a fluid way of being and needs nurturing throughout life.” World Health Organisation (WHO), 2001
