Transition Year
The school operates an optional Transition Year programme for students who have completed their Junior Cycle education. This one-year educational programme encourages personal and social development and recognises the need for students to grow in independence.
“You get out of TY what you put in” – This is the basis of our programme here in CNC. Students who benefit most from the year put themselves forward for various projects that push them outside their comfort zone and enable them to develop their confidence and people skills.
Additionally, it provides opportunities for students to discover their interests, passions, and aptitudes, guiding their decisions for their Leaving Certificate and nurturing critical thinking and creative critical thinking skills. It provides the students with an opportunity to broaden their educational experiences beyond the classroom.

Work experience is a central part of the programme and students attend work experience every Tuesday.
Students are assessed in a variety of ways and forms [such as written, practical, oral, and aural, portfolios or folders, project displays, exhibitions of work, personal logs, etc.]. In addition, students will be encouraged to develop skills of self-assessment. Students are using e-portfolios (One Note) in which they record and analyse their personal responses to their experiences in a variety of activities. A picture record of all activities is kept.
Coláiste Naomh Cormac will award Transition Year Certificates to students on successful completion of the year. These certificates are local rather than national, allowing us to highlight the distinct features of our programme as well as individual student achievements. Certificates are awarded based on the number of credits that students attain throughout the year – Pass, Merit or Distinction.
