Department Personnel

The music department has one teacher who regularly attends PPMTA meetings and inservices. Music takes place after school, three evenings per week.

Junior Cert

The course explores: 

  • Analysis of songs and works
  • Irish music 
  • Dictation
  • Aural skills
  • Composing skills: Triads, melody and harmony 
  • Practical skills: Instrumental or vocal performance

Music is examined at Junior Cert level by means of a practical examination (25%) and one written paper that is made up of listening and composing questions (75%)

Leaving Cert 

The course explores:

  • Analysis of works from different compositional eras.
  • Irish music 
  • Aural skills
  • Composing skills: Melody and harmony 
  • Practical skills: Instrumental or vocal performance or a music technology project

Music is examined at Leaving Cert by means of a practical/listening/composing elective (50%) and two written papers; Listening (25%) and Composing (25%)

The music room is very well equipped having:

  • White board with stave lines
  • Overhead projector
  • Two pianos and a keyboard
  • Percussion instruments
  • CD player
  • Computer
  • Music stands

  • Outings to set work performances in the National Concert Hall
  • Traditional Music Group
